Caramel Apple Squares

These Caramel Apple Squares are ridiculously easy to make, but so delicious that it will become your new favorite fall dessert! 

Fall just isn’t complete without a gooey, sweet caramel apple. Who agrees? Well, I’m happy to let you know that I found a way to enjoy those same flavors without breaking a tooth….Promise!

HOW TO MAKE CARAMEL APPLE SQUARES

PREP: Start by preheating the oven to 320 degrees. Butter and line with parchment paper an 8 inch square pan. 

BATTER: Use stand mixer with paddle attachment to beat together the butter and dark brown sugar, then add in the eggs. Slowly add in the flour and baking powder until combined. Turn off stand mixer and stir in the apple and caramel pieces. Batter will be thick. 

BAKE: Spoon batter into prepared pan. Bake for 1 hour or until risen and golden brown. Remove from the pan and let completely cool. 

FROSTING: Beat the butter, vanilla and powdered sugar with 3 Tbsp of caramel sauce until smooth and lighter in color. Spread frosting over the top of cake. Drizzle with more sauce to make it pretty!

RECIPE TIPS

• For flavor variation: substitute the caramel pieces for soft toffee pieces. 

• Store leftover squares in an airtight container. They should keep for 1-2 days at room temperature or for 3-4 days in the fridge.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 1/2 oz unsalted butter ,at room temperature, plus extra for the pan
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 7 oz honeycrisp apples peeled, cored and diced (or your favorite cooking apple)
  • 3 1/2 oz soft caramel candies ,chopped into small pieces

FROSTING

  • 3 1/2 oz unsalted butter ,at room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 TBSP caramel sauce (I used Smuckers Caramel Sundae Syrup) ,plus extra for drizzle
